Bismillah.
Having complete faith in Allah is your arsenal to fight every problem in the world. It shields you from despair no matter what happens in life.
Undoubtedly most Muslims struggle with faith at some point. Sometimes you know the cause of your hopelessness. And sometimes, you’ve become too ignorant to realize.
Either way, remember that Allah has commanded us never to lose hope in His mercy.
What Is Tawakkul?
The Arabic word for unwavering faith in Allah almighty is tawakkul. It is when nothing shakes your belief that Allah is Al-Haqq, and He is the best of planners.
All His decisions are unquestionably just. And it is Allah alone who can pull you out of difficult situations.
The trials you face, whether or not you fully understand, have a purpose. And that purpose is best understood by relying on the One who decreed everything.
Not a leaf falls except that Allah willed it to. So, to increase tawakkul, you first need to understand the Divine Decree (the qadr of Allah).
Al Qadr: The Divine Will
Islamic faith is incomplete without believing in al-Qadr. As a Muslim, you have a firm belief that Allah decided all your affairs before you were born. Therefore, you don’t question His wisdom when something doesn’t go your way. You know this is another piece of the puzzle, necessary to complete the whole picture.
This is complete submission. It’s when you’re content with the challenging parts too. Because you know Allah is making you learn and understand the greater purpose.
Why You Should Never Question Allah’s Will
Think of people who care for you deeply. Wouldn’t you know they mean well if they deny giving you something?
Then why question the Creator, who has far more wisdom? No human being can protect you the way Allah can. So, have faith that He’s enabling the things in your favor and disallowing whatever may harm you.
You may argue that you know what you’re asking for will make you happy. But you haven’t seen the future.
Allah knows your story. And He knows which events will take you to the next phase.
How Faith in Allah Helps You in Life
Having faith in Allah not only improves your worship but also helps you in worldly matters. It distinguishes efforts from outcomes. You realize you can only focus on effort and never pre-empt the outcome.
So, it’s liberating. All the stress of the outcome is gone. Your mind is freed and decluttered.
And a free mind makes you more productive, and more successful.
The Relationship Between Happiness & Tawakkul
Most people derive personal happiness from seeing their loved ones happy. But real happiness for a Muslim is making Allah happy because there is no love like the love of Allah. Every other being comes later.
To love Allah more, you must know Him better by studying His attributes. Remember His qualities often as it is mentioned in the Holy Quran:
Once you know what Allah has commanded and do it for His sake, you’ll experience happiness like never before. You will also strive to become a better version of yourself out of love for Him. And you’ll pay attention to what He taught through the Quran and His messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
What Stops Us From Relying on Allah’s Guidance
Every genuinely helpful Islamic resource will redirect you toward the Quran and the words of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). So, why don’t we find solutions in our primary sources of knowledge, relief, and comfort, to begin with?
Each one of the over 6,000 ayahs in the Quran contains infinite wisdom. You can strive all your life and still grasp merely the equivalent of a drop in the ocean. Only what He enables you to comprehend.
But the process in itself is rewarding enough to bring you relief. To cleanse and refresh your soul, and to make everything in the world more relevant and clear.
Then what stops a person from trying? What prevents a soul from being attentive to its Creator?
Misunderstanding Faith in Allah
One reason could be that we confuse the subservience of the influential and the subservience of the Divine. We want conventional, tangible proof of everything.
Hence we resist completely submitting to the will of Allah, based on our distorted idea of freedom. We dislike ‘blind faith’ here too, comparing it to the Earthly version. And the fight within us gradually destroys our peace.
Tawakkul in Light of the Quran
Tawakkul isn’t easy, and that too in today’s world. Hence, it is highly rewarded by Allah.
Here’s a glimpse of what He has promised in return for steadfastness:
وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُۥٓ
And whoever relies upon Allāh – then He is sufficient for him. (Quran, 65:3)
This ayah almost tells you that you pass every test by trusting Allah. This includes the biggest test, the results of which will be revealed in the afterlife.
And this isn’t the only verse highlighting the significance of keeping faith in Allah. But we’ve mentioned one to put things in perspective.
Some Final Words
In the end, we would like to share that choosing this topic for our introductory post has a purpose. We couldn’t begin without acknowledging that things work out only if Allah wills them to. There is no success without His decree, and we’re trusting Him to make this blog beneficial for our brothers and sisters.
The beauty of faith in Allah is that it unites the most diverse people. And we hope our words will resonate with Muslims worldwide.
